Hypocritical Darling
"A mirror only works if you open your eyes"
With the internet and social media, the world has become a place where we can call out people for doing things we don’t like while simultaneously doing those exact same things.
We are all probably a little hyocritical. I scold my kid for his language sometimes, knowing full well that I drop f-bombs without thinking about it. Though I would argue this is probably a bit of “healthy hypocrisy”, as I recognize I should try to watch my mouth more.
And so, when I inevitably yell “fuck” at something and my kid says something about it, I can say “You are right, kid. My bad.”
But we have reached the point in societal discourse where the hypocrisy is no longer “healthy”, because there is an entire group of people who refuse to acknowledge that they can ever possibly make mistakes.
It did not begin with Trump, but he has made abject hypocrisy into a way of life for a third of the country. There is not a single argument they can make for anything that is not some one-sided view of why Republicans can do whatever they want but no one else can.
Like Corey Taylor said, “a mirror only works if you open your eyes”. Yet, Republicans have sewed their eyes shut.
I say it is time we help them see all the bullshit they cry about every day.
Thus, I give you a nonexhaustive list of all the hypocritical bullshit these guys pull on a daily basis. Feel free to constantly hold it up to their face every time they open their mouths.
The example that inspired me to write this is the Graham Platner stuff. Platner had a bad tattoo that he had removed and he sent messages to women online while married. You realize they aren’t even claiming he had a physical relationship with another woman, he just talked to her about it?
Meanwhile, Trump cheated on every wife he had. Paxton cheated on his wife and she is divorcing him. Ted Cruz posted porn on twitter. Oklahoma school board guy showing porn during a meeting. Mike Johnson lives with another guy. Lindsey Graham is hiding in the closet with the door open. Matt Gaetz paid a child for sex and showed it to people on the House floor. Boebert jerked a Democrat off in a theater. Trump’s best friend for a decade was Epstein.
There is almost not a single one of them without some type of sex scandal. In some cases, like Trump, numerous credible allegations across decades along with patterns of behavior and admissions of guilt. Yet, none of that matters to the Republicans unless it is something that they can hold over their opponents.
You have to decide what principles matter and stand by them or else you look foolish. What does my son think if he corrects my language and I ignore him or tell him “I can do whatever I want.”? Why would he ever be inclined to do something if I cannot show him why he should?
But the hypocrisy isn’t just with sex scandals. This week Stephen Miller went online and called James Talarico “transgender” knowing full well that it is a lie. Someone then called him an “ugly fuck” and the Republicans lost their mind.
How dare you insult me after I tell a lie about you? I mean, the indignation is just staggering.
Trump called reporters “ugly” and “stupid” and “piggy” because they asked him questions, not because of an insult. Fox News every night is full of people passing off lies and slander as “opinions” and then giggling about how clever they are.
If you don’t want people to say mean things about you, maybe stop making up shit about other people. It is that simple.
Talarico is clearly terrifying them, so what do they do? They go on Fox every night and call him transgender and vegan and anything else they can pass off as a slur.
No one is talking about the policies that they support, because Paxton has a record of supporting pedophiles and stealing money, so why not call the nice, young guy names instead? Conflict always boosts the ratings in reality TV shows.
What about immigration? All the immigrants are causing all the problems, right? They claim illegal immigrants vote, but have no evidence. If you ask for evidence, they accuse someone else of hiding it. If there is evidence of fraud from 2020, where the hell is it? It is bullshit, they know it is bullshit, but we have to listen to them go on and on about it because no one will tell Trump to shut up.
Meanwhile, if you just pay them $5 million tomorrow, they can naturalize you right there. Doesn’t matter that they claim immigrants are terrible for everything, immigrants are always welcome, but so long as they line Trump’s pockets.
Mike Johnson will stand at a podium and say he hasn’t heard anything Trump said or did, while simultaneously talk about how close he is working with the White House.
We have money for bombs in Iran, but none for Medicare or Meals on Wheels. Rick Scott stole billions from Medicare and he still goes on TV and complains about “Somali immigrants” stealing money.
Hunter Biden gets dragged through the dirt for having a rough go of it after his brother died, accused of all this impropriety for some $100,000 car loan while Trump awards no-bid contracts to his son and his pool guy.
I mean, just look at the way they continue to blame Joe Biden for absolutely everything wrong with the economy while simultaneously praising Trump for the tariffs that ruined everything.
Meanwhile, the national debt is going up faster than ever, not down. At this rate, Democrats could give everyone food, shelter, healthcare, and education and SAVE money.
The Republicans claim to know the Bible so well, I wonder what the words “let he without sin cast the first stone” means to them?
I know what it means to me and I only claim to be a scientist.
No natural system is perfect. Ideally, you have a natural system of feedback loops that generate positive adaptations and evolution.
In practice, people make mistakes. Mistakes are how you learn to do better the next time, you know, positive adaptations. But if you never acknowledge a mistake, you can never learn.
And if you are allowed to continue making mistakes and never learning anything, then why bother?
Why not be a hypocrite if no one will ever hold the mirror up for you to see yourself?
Dr. C

If bad behavior has no consequences then it has no incentive to stop. That’s as true with children as it is with politicians and everyone in between. BTW, when I was growing up, my parents swore (shit, damn, hell -fuck didn’t show up until I was in HS and I think my stepbrother introduced it into the house). What I was told was those were adult words and when I was an adult, I could use them. I think your way is probably better as in leading by example, but I had no issue with the distinction. It was like driving a car and staying up late. Adult stuff.
I doubt that I am alone in longing for substantive fact based dialogue on the issues of the day. All else is “shifty sand,” or superficial nonsense designed to distract/entertain/grab headlines. Where can we turn for unbiased news of the day, including international news? The media does not serve us well.
